DCC Endorsements – updated 7-7-2019
SB City Council and BOS
The county Democratic Central Committee (DCC) has been busy this spring interviewing prospective candidates and considering endorsements for the four neighborhood district seats on the Santa Barbara City Council that will be up for election in November. The following candidates have received the endorsement of the Santa Barbara Democratic Party:
- Alejandra Gutierrez for District 1 (East Side)
- Michael Jordan for District 2 (Mesa)
- Oscar Gutierrez for District 3 (Westside)
- Meagan Harmon for District 6 (Downtown corridor)
These candidates are already at work in their respective districts, and once the party has secured a united campaign headquarters, the need for volunteer support will kick in. We will introduce them more completely in upcoming newsletters, but we should at least get familiar with their names and neighborhoods.
FYI: The winners in Districts 1,2, and 3 (for this election only) will serve 5-year terms so as to start the City’s transition to even-year elections in the future. The District 6 election is being held this year simply to complete the term Gregg Hart, now county supervisor for the First District, was elected to in 2017.
The party has also endorsed Third District Supervisor Joan Hartmann in her bid for re-election in 2020. The primary for that race will take place March 3, and if Hartmann can earn anything over half of the votes cast, it will be settled without a fall run-off.
